Frizz is a common hair concern for women in India. Those pesky flyaways and spiky ends can be extremely annoying on a special occasion when we want to look our very best. No matter how much you straighten, oil, or treat your hair, the frizz just comes back sooner or later! I blame it on our weather, just like 99 other problems in my life! But, on a more serious note, if you want an instant fix for frizzy hair right before a special event, I have just the right affordable solution for you! It is the Matrix Biolage SmoothProof Range which comes with a smoothing shampoo, conditioner and serum. The brand kindly gifted me this range to try out, and here are my thoughts on the products after multiple uses.

Matrix Biolage Smoothproof Smoothing Shampoo | Review
Before I proceed with talking about the Matrix Biolage Smoothproof Shampoo, let me tell you that any affordable smoothing hair product will be silicone-heavy, as is the case with this range from Matrix. If you absolutely cannot stand silicones, please click away at this point. However, silicones are, in fact, extremely effective at reducing frizz instantly, and protecting the hair from heat and environmental damage. If this makes them more appealing for you, do keep on reading.
The Matrix Biolage Smoothproof Shampoo contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), a slightly gentler version of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), as its primary surfactant. It also contains smoothing silicones along with nourishing oils, such as grapeseed oil, avocado oil, as well as castor oil, to name a few. Because of this combination of ingredients, the shampoo lathers well and removes grease with ease, but still doesn’t leave the hair dry or rough. In fact my wet hair feel pretty smooth after rinsing off the shampoo. Also, the product smells like a typical salon shampoo, which I like.

Matrix Biolage Smoothproof Smoothing Conditioner | Review
The Matrix Biolage Smoothproof Smoothing Conditioner is a beautiful conditioner to detangle and reduce frizziness. Strangely, the bottle I received did not mention any silicones in the ingredient list but the one on Nykaa mentions silicones. In either case, the conditioner also has nourishing oils that soften the hair and make them silky smooth.
I am usually a fan of hair masks over conditioners. But on the days when I want to detangle and soften my hair in a jiffy, this conditioner and the accompanying serum is the duo I go for. It is easy to apply, can be washed off within a couple of minutes and does not weigh the hair down. A decent conditioner for the price.
Ingredients – Aqua/Water/Eau, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Amodimethicone, Potato Starch Modified, Cetyl Esters, Isopropyl Alcohol, Perfume (Fragrance), Methylparaben, Trideceth 12, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Chlorhexidine Dihydrochloride, Cetrimonium Chloride, Hexylcinnamal, Coumarin, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methlyproprional

Matrix Biolage Smoothproof Smoothing Serum | Review
The final step of the smoothing range from Matrix is the Matrix Biolage Smoothproof Serum. This serum has an oily consistency but does not weigh the hair down like an oil. It detangles the hair, adds a beautiful shine, and removes any frizz due to towel drying or blow drying. Moreover, it can also provide heat protection in case you use any styling tools.
I love how light-weight this serum is yet how well it detangles any knots and smoothens the hair. You can layer it for the extra dose of shine without your hair looking oily!
Again, this serum contains a combination of silicones and nourishing oils and doesn’t have a strong fragrance.
My Verdict On The Matrix Biolage Smoothproof Range
As the adage goes, the proof of the pudding lies in the eating. Therefore, I have shared a before and after reel using these three products on a particularly bad hair day. You can clearly see in the video that the range delivers what it promises and removes frizz completely. Notice how shiny and sleek my hair look? It’s all because of this trio!
That being said, I would like to add that this haircare range from Matrix is a great affordable range to instantly remove frizz and smoothen your hair before a special occasion. However, on the daily, I prefer a sulfate-free shampoo and a deep nourishing mask that has plant oils and butters instead of silicones.
While this haircare range does contain a few oils, their primary smoothing ingredients are silicones. Therefore, this trio is good for a quick hair fix, but do combine it with more nourishing products on a regular basis to maintain a balance!
