Fine hair with an oily scalp is the worst possible combination. The oil from the scalp weighs down the fine hair easily, making the hair look limp and greasy, without any volume. This is where volumizing shampoos can help. These shampoos tend to suck out all the grease from the scalp and roots, and give them a visible lift and volume. Bear in mind that volumizing shampoos won’t make your hair strands thicker, they will simply give the hair a bounce and lift by removing all traces of grease. I have tried a variety of shampoos over the years, some that claimed to be volumizing and some that did not claim this specifically but still managed to lift my roots. Here is my list of the best volumizing shampoos for fine hair based on my personal experience.
1. Shesha Beauty Deva Thali Shampoo
The least drying shampoo out of all the shampoos listed here, the Shesha Beauty Deva Thali Shampoo tops my list of best volumizing shampoos. Since most volumizing shampoos work by removing all traces of oil from the roots, they end up being slightly drying on the lengths of the hair strands. Therefore, you need to pair the shampoo with a deep conditioning mask for your lengths. However, the Shesha Beauty Deva Thali Shampoo manages to clean the scalp thoroughly without stripping the hair dry. It adds a nice amount of volume to the hair while being sulphate-free. As a cherry on top, this shampoo contains the goodness of Ayurvedic herbs such as Hibiscus, Shikakai and Henna.
2. Herb Island Forest Berries Shampoo
The Herb Island Forest Berries Shampoo is the second pick for my list of best volumizing shampoos. This shampoo is enriched with the goodness of berries and is SLS free. It leaves the scalp thoroughly clean while adding volume at the roots and smoothening the lengths of the hair. Also, the super affordable price tag makes it completely worth a shot. It gives best result when paired with the Forest Berries conditioner.
3. The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Shampoo
The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Shampoo adds oodles of volume at the roots while cleansing the scalp thoroughly in one go. This shampoo has the invigorating scent of green tea that leaves your scalp feeling fresh for days. It can be slightly drying on the lengths of the hair, so will recommend pairing it with a good hair mask. The conditioner from this range is one of my faves too and detangles the hair without weighing them down.
4. BBlunt Full On Volume Shampoo
The BBlunt Full On Volume Shampoo is yet another affordable volumizing shampoo that is readily available in India. This one too cleanses the scalp really well but can feel a little drying on the lengths of the hair. When paired with an appropriate hair mask, this product will leave you with voluminous, gorgeous tresses.
5. Loreal Serie Expert Volumetry Shampoo
A lot of people with fine hair tend to use dry shampoo to keep the grease at bay in between washes. However, the texture of dry shampoo on the scalp begins to feel icky after a day or two. The Loreal Serie Expert Volumetry Shampoo is the perfect choice for removing dry shampoo and any other product buildup from the scalp. This shampoo also contains salicylic acid, and therefore helps with exfoliating the scalp as well. It is quite potent and can be drying on the hair. I will recommend using it only once a week.
