Suganda is a homegrown Indian skincare brand whose products have quickly become holy grail items for all those who have tried them. I have personally raved about their White Lotus Moisturizer in the past, which is an excellent product for those with combination to oily skin. The brand recently sent me another one of their star products, the Suganda Anti-Oxidant Face Serum, to test out and review for all of you. Here are my thoughts after using this product daily for several weeks.
Let’s talk about the packaging first, just like the rest of the products from the brand, the Suganda Anti-Oxidant Serum comes in a dark glass bottle with a plastic lid and the familiar green and white label. Since this is a serum, this product has a glass dropper which works very well at dispensing precise quantities of product. The packaging is very sturdy and leakproof, and hence quite travel-friendly despite being made of glass, which is fabulous for the environment.
While I am not an ingredient expert, I trust Bindu, the founder of the brand, with whatever she has to say about the formulation, and for this product, she says that the formula contains a stable form of Vitamin C called Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, which has a pH value of 6. This form of vitamin C has a higher pH than traditional vitamin C serums that contain Ascorbic Acid (pH 4), and is supposed to be gentler on the skin, which is something that I can vouch for. This gel-like serum which is a translucent pale yellow in colour does not tingle my skin like other Vitamin C products that I have used in the past. The formula also contains natural anti-oxidants such as Curcumin (turmeric) and Gotu Kola, which are known to prevent sun damage as well.
Since this product helps in preventing sun damage, the brand recommends using this in the morning and applying a layer of moisturizer on top of it. I apply this serum on my face and neck in the morning and after around five minutes, I add a layer of sunscreen which doubles up as my moisturizer. On alternate nights, I use this serum at night and follow it up with a night cream or facial oil and on the other nights, I use an AHA/BHA serum followed by a night cream.
Like I mentioned before, this product does not tingle or irritate my skin. It feels a little sticky for a couple of minutes post application and feels like its stretching out the skin a bit, but after a few minutes I cannot feel anything on my face at all. It is mildly hydrating and needs a layer of moisturiser on top for adequate hydration of the skin. While this serum does not provide instant results, after using it for a couple of weeks, I could notice that my skin was glowing more than usual and my scars and texture seemed to have visibly faded. This serum has helped with getting rid of the bumps (whiteheads) on my nose and chin area and has smoothened the texture of my skin.
The product is priced at INR 1000 for a 20ml bottle, but it will last you for a couple of months at least and is, therefore, a small price to play for smooth and glowing skin. The brand also has regular deals which I post on my Instagram stories, so make sure to follow me there! This serum is the kind of product which the more diligently you use, the better the results will be with time. All of the products from Suganda are specially formulated keeping the issues of Indian skin in mind and this one works beautifully for textured and dull skin. If you are someone with slightly sensitive skin who wants to incorporate Vitamin C in their skincare regimen then this serum could be the perfect choice for you!
Love a good Antioxidant serum
