Monsoon and frizzy hair are as inseparable as soulmates. If you agree, then you must be on the same boat as me, struggling to keep your hair tame in the humid weather. I have lived in high-humidity conditions for the past decade or so, and have tried a bunch of products over the years to keep the frizz at bay. Here is a list of my favourite Monsoon Haircare products that help keep my tresses smooth during the rainy season.

1. Pre-Shampoo Mask
The best way to curb frizziness for me is to incorporate a pre-shampoo hair butter in my Monsoon haircare routine. A hair butter is essentially a solidified version of a hair oil which is richer and thicker in consistency. I love to slather a hair butter on the mid-lengths to ends of my hair at least a few hours before a wash. I often prefer to leave the hair butter on my hair overnight. The Deyga Organics Hair Butter is my fave for this purpose and the Juicy Chemistry Argan and Mango Butter Hair Mask is also quite nice. Bear in mind that you may need an extra round of shampoo to get rid of all the oil residue when you have hair butter on your hair. This step deep conditions the hair and makes it soft and shiny.

2. Mild SLS-Free Shampoo
Shampoos that contain SLS are particularly unsuitable for the monsoon season because they tend to make the hair dry and frizzy. Opt for SLS-free shampoos with a milder surfactant instead. I am quite enjoying my Bare Anatomy SLS-free personalized shampoo at the moment. In the past, I have also enjoyed the Wild Organica Wheat Protein Shampoo in humid weather. You can pick any sls-free, mild shampoo that works for you.

3. Post-Shampoo Mask
I am a mask person throughout the year and prefer masks to conditioners any day. Look for masks with Argan oil to condition and detangle your hair without weighing it down. My personal favourites are the Palmer’s Natural Fusions Hair Mask and the Loreal Mythic Oil Hair Mask. Both these masks will leave your hair soft and smooth without compromising on volume.

4. Hair Serums/Creams
Hair serums or creams create the final layer of protection on the hair and help to seal all the moisture in. I love hair serums with Argan Oil, and my current fave is the Deyga Hair Serum which is essentially a light-weight oil. I apply it only to the ends of my hair. When I feel the need to use something on the lengths as well, I reach for the TIGI Smoothing cream. If you do plan to blow dry your hair try to stick to the cool air setting as much as possible to avoid drying out your hair!
