If you know me you would know that I usually prefer lipsticks that have one swipe opaque coverage. This is why I was a little skeptical about the Fae Beauty Buildable Matte Lipsticks when they were launched recently. As the name suggests, these lipsticks are obviously not fully opaque, however, I fell in love with the formula from the very first use! Read on to find out why I love these lipsticks so much and how I like to use them!

The Branding and Packaging
The brand FAE Beauty stands for Free and Equal Beauty, and the core values of the brand are to support all forms of beauty without having to adhere to the societal definitions of the same. The whole vibe of the brand is quite minimalistic and simplistic – something that every woman can use without being overwhelmed. The packaging of the product also reflects the same minimalism and simply has the letters FAE printed in black against a white background. The lipstick has a white plastic casing with a transparent plastic lid and comes inside a holographic cardboard box. The shade name is mentioned at the bottom of the lipstick and the shade is also visible through the lid.
To be honest, the material of the packaging is not the sturdiest, but for the price of INR 600 per lipstick, I can look past that. The packaging does look quite pretty even though the plastic does not give the most luxurious vibe. All in all, I am quite ok with the packaging.

The Formula
The brand has very correctly described the formula of these lipsticks as a buildable matte one. I was a little worried that these lipsticks will be very sheer but they in fact provide a medium, semi-opaque coverage in two swipes on my lips. They feel extremely light weight and hydrating, just like a lip balm, but the colour payoff is much better than that of a lip balm. The formula is pretty smooth and glides easily on the lips. You can easily layer up or sheer down the pigmentation as per your mood and can also use the product as a cheek tint. Two layers provide a demi-matte finish on my lips, with a very slight sheen to it. The formula is vegan, fragrance-free and hypoallergenic, and would therefore suit most people.
The Fae Beauty Buildable Matte Lipsticks are definitely not transferproof, and will transfer a bit every time you eat or drink something. They leave a faint tint on the lips after a few hours, and if you want the pigmentation to last all day long then you will have to keep reapplying every 2 hours and after every meal.

The Shades of the Fae Beauty Buildable Matte Lipsticks
The Fae Beauty Buildable Matte Lipsticks come in 5 different shades to suit a range of Indian skin tones and every mood. These shades are called Too Basic, Too Nude, Too Much, Too Cheeky and Too Dark, as a sattire against the comments we often hear about our lipsticks and personality, which I feel is quite clever.
I currently own only the shade Too Basic, which is deep dusty rose that looks a little cool toned on me. It is basically a my lips but better shade for my pigmented lips and I can easily wear it on an everyday basis. It adds the right amount of colour to my lips without being over the top and is incredibly flattering. I would really like to try all the shades from the brand in the future and swatch them all for you guys. In summary, the other shades are a peachy nude, a red, a dark purplish wine, and a dark pink.

My Verdict on the Fae Beauty Buildable Matte Lipsticks
All my skepticism regarding the sheerness of the Fae Beauty Buildable Matte Lipsticks disappeared from the very first use. I fell in love with the hydrating and comfortable formula of the lipsticks and the medium coverage is very wearable to be honest. What I also like is that I can easily sport this lipstick without wearing a full face of makeup. Most opaque lipsticks that I own look a little odd on me unless I am wearing foundation but these lipsticks provide a very natural look that can be worn both with and without base makeup. I also like that you can create a full look with just one lipstick, by using it as a lip and cheek tint and maybe even as an eyeshadow.
Overall, I am very happy with these lipsticks and would recommend them to all of you who like a comfy formula and prefer a more natural-looking pigmentation. They are great for college-going girls as well who are new to makeup. The price is a tad bit high but since the formula is free of nasties, I can imagine that a lot of you would be fine with investing in these lipsticks.
