Full disclosure – I was quite skeptical before writing this blog post because I felt that nobody would be interested in reading a long blog post about a body wash. Most people just pick one based on the packaging and fragrance right? But then I thought that my audience is always interested in knowing more about the claims that the brand makes and whether the ingredients live up to these claims. So I decided to go ahead and share my thoughts on the newly(ish) launched Pears Nourishing Body Wash. Here is what I think of this product and its ingredients, along with some other body wash recommendations from my inventory!

The Packaging
Packaging plays a crucial role when it comes to body washes, because that’s what lures us towards them right? The Pears Nourishing Body Wash comes in a pretty minimalistic packaging with a clear bottle and the classic Pears lettering. There are multiple variants of this body wash available in the market, including the original golden Pears, the blue soft and gentle one, and a number of fruity variants. I picked the Coconut Water variant this time which has a beachy coconut print on it. This print looks quite attractive from afar but up close it doesn’t look very luxurious to be honest (as if they have pasted stock pictures on the bottle). I do not mind this because the body wash is very affordable but had it been pricier I would have expected something more classy.
The Pears Nourishing Body Wash is priced at INR 145 for a sturdy 250ml bottle, which is a very good deal in my opinion.

The Formula
The key characteristic of the Pears Nourishing Body Wash which the brand highlights on the packaging is that it is 100% Soap Free. What this means is that this body wash does not contain SLS or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. It does however, contain SLES or Sodium Laureth Sulfate, which is a milder surfactant than SLS and is less prone to irritating or drying out the skin. The formula also contains glycerin, which is a hydrating ingredient, and a fair amount of fruit extracts, which act as antioxidants and help with brightening the skin.
The formula is in the form of a clear gel and I do not see any artifical colours or fragrance on the list, which is good news for those with sensitive skin. The product produces a gentle lather on the skin and has a mild aquatic scent that does not linger on the body.

My Experience with the Pears Nourishing Body Wash
The Pears Nourishing Body Wash cleanses the skin well with its generous lather but does not leave the skin feeling dry or stretchy. I had assumed that it would have a strong coconutty scent but it does not, in fact the sweet aquatic scent that it does have is very mild and does not linger on the skin. Due to the presence of glycerin fairly high up on the ingredient list, this body wash leaves the skin feeling hydrated and supple, so much so that I can get away without using a body lotion afterwards in the present hot weather.

Also, I was happy to see a number of fruit extracts and honey in the ingredient list because usually when brands claim that a product has “natural” ingredients, these ingredients are few in number and present at the bottom of the ingredient list. With the Pears Nourishing Body Wash, these ingredients are quite high in number and are placed fairly high in the ingredient list too, which is great. I am not entirely sure how much fruit enzymes and honey can help the skin by means of a body wash which stays on the skin only for a few minutes but it is still good to see a brand living up to its claims.
My Verdict on the Pears Nourishing Body Wash
Overall, I feel that the Pears Nourishing Body Wash is a good option for those who prefer a gentle body wash that does not have an overwhelming smell. I have used the blue variant from this range in the past as well and liked that one too. This range of body washes is affordable and gets the job done while maintaining the softness of your skin. What is more, the Pears Nourishing Body Wash is readily available at both offline and online stores, including Big Basket and Amazon Pantry, which is a blessing in these times of sporadic lockdowns. Other Gentle Body Washes That I Like
I personally prefer gel based body washes over creamy body washes because the former feel lighter and gentler on my skin. Some of the other body washes that I love are from Nivea, Palmolive, St. D’vence, and Coco Soul. I have also heard good things about the Love, Beauty & Planet Body Washes and will definitely try them out in the near future!

Though I am on “everything fragrant” phase I know I am going to be bored soon. Then I’ll try this one for a change.
