If you are someone who has a petite frame like me, you would know how difficult it can be to get readymade garments that you like in your size. The jumpsuits and maxi skirts from most brands are way too long for us and the ethnic wear is usually quite loose. This is why when I received the invite for a friend’s beach wedding, I knew that I had to get my outfits custommade at a trustworthy boutique. I had heard a lot of good things about Lavender, The Boutique from a couple of friends who live in Bangalore, and when I came to know that they could design and ship my clothes to Pune, I decided to try them out.
Since the wedding I have to attend falls in summer, I got in touch with the boutique in Feb so that I could have my outfits with me in time to plan out my accessories and makeup. Here is my review of the boutique and an account of how my outfits were designed.
When I contacted the boutique, I got to interact directly with the owner Rashmi, who is a seasoned designer and has a lot of experience when it comes to designing both Indian and Western outfits. I told her that I was planning to attend a destination beach wedding in the summer, and needed a lehenga blouse to go with a skirt that I already had as well as a breezy jumpsuit for a poolside cocktail party. Rashmi gave me a bunch of great ideas for both the looks, and sent me some sample designs to look at as well. With the help of these, we narrowed down on the perfect designs for both the events.
A Lehenga Blouse With A Splash of Colours
For the lehenga blouse, I needed something that would pair well with a mint green lehenga skirt that I already had and wanted to reuse for this wedding. I had originally worn this skirt with a matching mint green blouse for another friend’s wedding, so I wanted to wear it with a contrasting blouse this time. Rashmi suggested a bright fuchsia pink colour for the blouse with contrasting yellow embroidery on it. She also recommended adding vibrant tassels at the sides of the blouse to give it a statement look and make it colourful enough for a daytime beach wedding.
I loved the idea of a statement lehenga blouse where the colours would do the talking. I chose a sleeveless design for the blouse as I would be wearing it during the peak of summer and Rashmi also added a stunning side detail with the latkans which you can see in the pictures. The colourful thread tassels and bird latkans made the blouse stand out and gave a new life to my old Lehenga skirt. I was also pleasantly surprised at how well the blouse fit me even though I had sent the team my measurements over email and had not been physically measured. This lehenga blouse was all that I had dreamed of and more, and I loved the colour combination, the quality of the fabric and padding as well as the modern design that was completely appropriate for a beach wedding.
A Breezy Blue Jumpsuit
The jumpsuit that I wanted was for a cocktail party that was going to be an informal poolside get-together during the day. I therefore wanted a jumpsuit that was comfy, breezy and preferably blue, to go with the poolside setting. Rashmi suggested a printed blue fabric for the jumpsuit that would have floral and pearl motifs to go with the beach theme of the wedding. To keep the weather in mind, she recommended flared pants and thin straps instead of longer sleeves. I also wanted the design to be modern and youthful, so I requested her to add a triangular cut out at the waist which is currently in trend.
Just like the Lehenga blouse, the jumpsuit turned out to be even more spectacular than I had imagined! Unlike the readymade jumpsuits, here the straps weren’t falling off my shoulders nor were the pants so long that I would trip over the fabric. Even the triangular cut out was placed at the perfect spot on the waist area. The fabric was very light-weight and breezy as I had requested and the outfit had a definite aquatic vibe to it. This is surely a piece that I would rewear to other occasions as well because it is so comfortable and fits me really well.
My Review of Lavender, The Boutique
My overall experience with Lavender, The Boutique was a positive one and I was impressed by the professionalism and skill of the designers. I loved how Rashmi paid close attention to my taste and needs and designed two gorgeous outfits accordingly. What was also commendable was that I could get these outfits stitched and delivered on time from Bangalore to Pune without having to visit the boutique even once. Needless to say, I cannot recommend Lavender, The Boutique enough to you if you are in the need of some phenomenal custommade outfits.
