Holi, the festival of colours, fun and frolic is round the corner, and I am sure that most of you are pumped to unleash the child within you and go all out with the gulal, pichkaris and water balloons! While playing HoliĀ is indeed a funfilled experience, the story is a little different the next morning, when you wake up with stains on your skin and sometimes even rashes or irritation caused by the chemicals in the Holi colours. Over the course of the years, I have mastered the art of protecting my sensitive skin from the Holi colours without compromising on the fun. This year, I will be protecting my skin with the help of some amazing products from Indrani Cosmetics. If you want to know my Holi skincare secrets then keep on reading!
1. Protect the skin with the Indrani Lavender Massage Oil
They say prevention is better than cure, and there is no better product than a body oil to prevent the Holi colours from seeping into your skin. Oil forms a protective layer on the surface of the skin which will prevent the chemicals in the Holi colours from entering your pores and will also prevent staining. The Indrani Cosmetics Lavender Massage Oil is a great product for this step because it will hydrate and protect your skin without feeling heavy or greasy. Slather a generous amount on all exposed parts of your body and you are ready to brave those water balloons!
2. First Cleanse with the Indrani Lavender Spa Cleanser
Once you are back home after playing Holi, immediately jump into the shower and rinse off all the colours with tepid water. Once the water washes off all the colours from the surface of the skin, you must remove the more deep-seated colours that have left behind stains. We will follow the principle of double cleansing here and will first use an oil-based cleanser to break down the pigments followed by a foaming cleanser to further clean out the pores.
For the first cleanse, you can use the Indrani Lavender Spa Cleanser, which is a non-foaming oil-based cream cleanser that is extremely gentle on the skin yet manages to break down the stains left behind by colours really well. You can use this cleanser on your face as well as on parts of your body that are heavily stained. Not only will this cleanser get rid of the stains, it will also soothe your skin and make it softer, prepping it for the second cleanse.
3. Second Cleanse with the Indrani Face Wash
Coming to the second cleanse, you can use the Indrani Cosmetics Face Wash for this step which is a mild cleanser that produces a gentle lather. This face wash will get rid of any residual colours without stripping your skin dry. I tested the pH of the face wash and found it to lie between 6 and 7, which means that it is mildly acidic in nature and will therefore not damage your skin’s natural acidic barrier that protects your face from skin infections. To further protect your skin and tighten the pores, you can use a slightly acidic toner after using this face wash.
For the rest of your body, you can use a gentle body wash, such as the Indrani Shower Gel. I will not recommend using a scrub right after playing Holi because your skin may already be irritated from all the colours and scrubbing can further aggravate the irritation. If you still have some stains left on your skin then you can double cleanse it again in the evening or the next morning.
4. Slather On The Moisture with the Indrani Pearl Cream
Last but not the least, you need to moisturize. On a day when your skin has gone through a lot, you need something rich and hydrating. The Indrani Cosmetics Pearl Cream is something that I love not just for my face but also for my hands and feet. It is very moisturizing but does not feel heavy on my skin, yet manages to make it soft and supple. This cream with its soothing and brightening properties will be the perfect last step to your Holi skincare ritual.
