I have always known that most of the makeup from MAC Cosmetics is of bomb quality, because I was a MAC bride a few years back and all my makeup looks had turned out to be stunning and lasted for hours. I have however, never purchased MAC makeup because it is quite expensive in India, which is why I was thrilled to receive a PR package from the brand recently. The star product in the box for me was the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour in the shade Carnivorous, because I have been wanting to try this liquid lipstick since a long time. Here is my review of this product along with lip and arm swatches!
The Packaging
The MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour comes in the classic bullet shaped packaging which looks quite luxe. The applicator on this liquid lipstick is a doe foot one which is quite thin but sturdy, and allows for extremely precise and even application. I like that you can easily identify the shade of the lipstick by looking at the tube and that the product is not too heavy or bulky.
The Formula
The formula of this liquid lipstick is not too thick but not runny either, and feels extremely light-weight on the lips. It is not goopy or sticky like some long-wearing liquid lipsticks and I feel only a slight tackiness on my lips after applying this product. Despite being completely matte once dry, the lipstick does not tug at the lips and does not exaggerate texture (unless if you have extremely chapped lips). In fact, I often forget that I am wearing a lipstick when I have this product on, which is the ultimate compliment for a liquid lipstick.
The MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick is transferproof once it has set on the lips (which takes about a minute after application) and lasts all day long. It does however fade from the center of the lips once you eat something greasy or even something very liquidy. So if you are planning to wear it to a lunch or dinner, make sure to carry it with you to touch up the inner parts of your lips.
MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour Carnivorous – Pigmentation and Opacity
The MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour in the shade Carnivorous is pigmented like crazy and opaque in one swipe. Thanks to the applicator, it is easy to apply this shade precisely on the lips despite it being so dark. I will recommend starting off with a small amount of product and then going in for more if required. The colour Carnivorous is a deep oxblood shade that has red undertones under some lights but looks blackish maroon under dim lights. It is a perfect fall shade, and if you are someone who loves dark and vampy shades then you will fall in love with Carnivorous. What I also love about this shade is that it does not stain the lips and can easily be removed with just micellar water despite it being so long-wearing.
My Final Verdict on the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colours
Although the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks cost an arm and a leg (priced at INR 2200 each), this liquid lip colour has one of the most comfortable yet long-wearing formulas that I have experienced so far. The shade range is also pretty decent and you can find nudes, reds and pinks with different undertones as per your liking. If you can afford it, do try this product once, I am sure you will love the formula as much as I do!
