Sugar Cosmetics has been running some great offers on their website recently, and I availed some of these offers to restock my favourite eyeliner along with purchasing some stuff from the brand that I had not tried before. I was in the market for a deep pink/fuchsia lip liner for some of my bullet lipsticks and found the shade Plum Yum in the Sugar Cosmetics Lipping On The Edge Lip Liner range to be the closest match to the colour I was looking for. Here is my detailed review of this lip liner along with swatches.
The Sugar Lipping On The Edge Lip Liners are sharpenable pencils that have a black packaging with a coloured tip that indicates the shade of the liner. Each liner comes with a free sharpener that can be used to sharpen both pencils and chubby crayons. The packaging is quite sturdy and chic and the outer cardboard box is as quirky and colourful as with the other products from the brand.
Coming to the formula of the product, this lip liner glides like butter on the lips and is really creamy during application. It does not tug on the lips at all and helps to define the lips in one stroke. It settles to a creamy matte finish and can be used on its own without a lipstick on top if you fill your lips in with the product and you can even top it with a clear gloss if you prefer glossy lips. The liner works well at improving the longevity of creamy lipsticks, prevents feathering and bleeding and lasts for a good 6 hours when worn on its own.
This lip liner is currently available in 8 shades that correspond to some of the best selling lipstick shades from the brand, but I feel that Sugar should expand the shade range to incorporate more vibrant colours and nudes for different skin tones. The shade Plum Yum mimics the colour of the Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick in the same shade (which I am planning to buy as well). This shade is a deep muted pink with slight plum undertones that will show up on fairer skin tones. It looks more deep pink than plum or berry on my lips and pairs well with fuchsia lipsticks. Here is a swatch of the shade alongside the shade Cowgirl from Spekta Cosmetics, as you can see, Plum Yum is more muted while Cowgirl is more vibrant. If I wear the liner in the shade Plum Yum all over my lips then some of the pigmentation from my lips tends to peek through, so you may not be able to wear it on its own if you have heavily pigmented lips.
Overall, I love the formula of this lip liner because it is really smooth and glides easily on the lips. Each liner is priced at INR 499 which is a little expensive in my opinion, but if you buy it during a sale on Sugar’s website or Nykaa then this product is definitely worth trying out. I will surely be picking up a few more shades from the range because I love the formula and am hoping that they bring out more shades soon!
