One product that has made the most drastic difference to my skin ever since I started using it religiously on a daily basis is sunscreen. Photoaging is one of the primary causes of premature aging of the skin, which leads to pigmentation, dullness and fine lines on the skin, and using a sunscreen on a daily basis is the only way to prevent it. There are two broad categories of sunscreen – Physical sunscreens or mineral sunscreens that contain ingredients that reflect the sun rays and Chemical sunscreens that contain ingredients that absorb the sun rays. While I personally do not have a preference between the two, physical sunscreens tend to be gentler on sensitive skin. Here is the list of my Top 5 Sunscreens in India, which cover both chemical and physical sunscreens and are suitable for a spectrum of skin types.
1. Neutrogena Dry Touch Sunscreens
The first range that I have to talk about is the Neutrogena Dry-Touch Sunscreens because this was the first sunscreen formula that suited my oily face and did not leave my skin feeling heavy or sticky. They have a number of different formulas in this range that vary from lotions to sticks and cover different SPF values. They have a Sheer Zinc Dry Touch Sunscreen range that is a range of mineral sunscreens and a Helioplex range that is a range of chemical sunscreens. I am a fan of this product because it is matte and lightweight on the skin but still contains a high SPF and is fairly water resistant. Click here to read my full review. Click here to buy.
2. Plum Chamomile and White Tea Sheer Matte Day Cream
The Plum Chamomile and White Tea Sheer Matte Day Cream is a blessing for those with oily skin because it leaves the skin matte and does not feel heavy on the skin despite having SPF 50. It also does not leave a visible white cast on the face (it may look a little white after application but this disappears in a few seconds). This product is a chemical sunscreen that is paraben-free and contains a bunch of antioxidants too. I will highly recommend it to those with fairly oily skin, and the brand has a number of other variants for different skin types too. Click here to read my full review. Click here to buy.
3. Tvakh Triple Protection Sunscreen
The Tvakh Triple Protection Sunscreen is a physical sunscreen that contains SPF 30 and is perfect for daily use by those who do not spend long hours under direct sunlight. The formula is quite hydrating and is ideal for those with dry to normal skin, although it doesn’t make oily skin particularly greasy either. This sunscreen feels extremely light on the skin and does not leave a white cast. I will recommend it to those who mostly stay indoors and are looking for a lightweight and effective sunscreen. 4. Aroma Magic Cucumber Sunscreen Lotion
Another great option for daily use is the Aroma Magic Cucumber Sunscreen Lotion with SPF 30, and this one is suitable for normal to oily skin. This product is a mineral suncreen that is again quite light weight and does not leave a white cast on the skin. It settles to a demi-matte texture on the skin and feels quite soothing on the face. What is more, this is one of the most budget-friendly sunscreens in the market! Click here to read my full review. Click here to buy!
5. Lotus Herbals Safe Sun Sunscreens
Lotus Herbals has a range of sunscreens in its kitty that vary in SPF values and textures. A lot of us have grown up using one or the other sunscreen from this affordable brand. Biotique has a very similar range of sunscreens as well but there are a few differences between the two ranges. 1) The sunscreens from Lotus Herbals are chemical sunscreens (at least the ones I have used) whereas the Biotique ones are mineral sunscreens. 2) Lotus Herbals provides the full ingredient list on the packaging while Biotique does not. 3) The sunscreens from Lotus Herbals contain parabens whereas Biotique claims to be paraben-free. In terms of texture and consistency, both these ranges are quite similar and I feel that they are more suitable for dry to normal skin because my dry-skinned family members love them to bits. I hope that my list of 5 Best Sunscreens in India helped you out in selecting the right product for your skin types and needs. Have you tried any of these products? How did they fare for you? Let me know in the comments below!
P.S. – Most of these products contain fragrance, which may not suit sensitive skin. These products did not irritate my skin but I will definitely try to create a list of fragrance-free sunscreens in the future for those of you who are allergic to fragrance.
