Winky Lux is an American makeup brand that is known for its cruelty-free, luxurious makeup that is also free of parabens, phthalates and sulphates. I recently got to try one of their lipsticks from their Matte Lip Velour collection, thanks to a giveaway, and today I will be talking to you about the formula and shade of this lipstick. Read on to find out more about this product.
I feel that one of the key USP’s of Winky Lux is the packaging that stands out from other makeup brands. Their Matte Lip Velour lipsticks come in a gold and silver capsule-shaped packaging which is smaller than my palm. I first thought that I had received a mini version of their lipstick but later realized that this is the actual size of the full-sized product. You do get 4gm of product in each lipstick, which is comparable to how much product you get in lipsticks from other brands, so it is only the outer packaging that is smaller in size. This outer packaging looks quite high-end and feels heavy to hold. I got the shade Dattero from a limited edition collection in collaboration with Marzia, and this shade came in a cute pink cardboard box with a cool print on it. I am not entirely sure if the regular lipsticks from this range come in a similar cardboard box or not.
Coming to the formula of the lipstick, it is a creamy matte that glides easily on the lips and has a VERY slight satin sheen to it. The formula is quite pigmented too but the shade Dattero is a peachy nude that is not able to hide the pigmentation on my lips completely in one stroke. This particular shade is a warm peach that will be a very pretty nude shade for NC 30 and fairer skin tones but it does wash my NC35 skin out if I use it without a liner. I can forgive the shade because it will clearly work well for lighter skin tones but I do not particularly enjoy the formula too much either. The product tends to ball up or bundle up in the creases of my lips and is definitely not meant for lips with texture on them. You will have to use a lip balm or primer to prevent this from happening. Since it is a creamy matte, it lasts on the lips for around 4 hours and does transfer a bit every time you eat or drink.
To be honest, if I have to pick a creamy matte lipstick then I would go for the Nykaa So Matte Lipsticks over this product any day. The Nykaa ones feel similar on the lips but do not exaggerate the texture of the lips as much. Also, the Winky Lux Matte Lip Velours are priced at $15 each, which is more than INR 1000. In that price, you could buy 2-3 super decent creamy matte to full matte lipsticks from Nykaa or Sugar Cosmetics. I feel that with the Winky Lux lipstick, you are paying more for the packaging than for the formula. If however, you like to collect lipsticks and are attracted by the packaging of this one, I will recommend going for a darker shade which will work better for pigmented lips. If you have very fair skin then the shade Dattero will also work for you, only if you are fine with creamy lipsticks. Have you ever tried any products from Winky Lux, how did they work for you?
