The world can be divided into glossy nail paint lovers and matte nail paint lovers. I lie somewhere in between. While the glossy nail paints always add a touch of glam, I do love a good matte nail paint to make a statement, especially one in a dark colour. It is no surprise that I fell head over heels in love with the Lakme 9 to 5 Primer+Matte Nail Color in the shade Magenta, which I recently received in my mail. Read on to find out my thoughts on the colour and formula, along with swatches.
The Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Nail Color comes in a cute round glass bottle with a rose gold lid and a wide brush that allows easy and even application. This range offers 7 different shades ranging from a black to a peachy nude and the formula claims to be matte and chip resistant. I am happy to report that the formula does live up to its claims and dries down to a perfect matte finish within seconds of application. I love when a nail polish dries down instantly on the nails because I have no patience to wait for long between 2 coats. The colours are pigmented enough for you to get away with one coat of the product but I apply two coats of the polish to increase its wear time. The formula layers beautifully and does not become streaky after application of multiple coats, which is another plus of this product.
The shade Magenta is a beautiful dark magenta with slight reddish undertones. It is opaque in one coat but can be layered as I mentioned before. This shade is perfect for the upcoming festive season and will flatter all Indian skin tones. The nail paint stays completely matte on my nails for 3 days after which it becomes a tad bit glossy. It does not chip for at least 5 days, but it gets slightly frayed at the edges by day 4. The longevity is quite decent for a matte nail paint and if you are careful then you can make it last throughout the work week, which is what most working women covet in a nail paint formula.
The Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Nail Colors are priced at INR 250 each, which I feel is quite reasonable for the quality of the formula and the packaging. I will highly recommend this product to all the matte nail paint lovers, and am currently eyeing the shades Blush and Apricot to venture into the matte and nude nail paints category. For the brides to be and for those gearing up for the coming festivals, Magenta is a shade that you can blindly pick up to go with all Indian ethnic wear. Have you tried out any of the shades from this range? Let me know in the comments below!
