The moment I first heard about Dr. Sheth’s skincare range, I was absolutely thrilled and excited to try it. It is basically a luxury skincare range formulated specifically for Indian skin, keeping the sensitivity and characteristics of Indian skin and the Indian weather conditions in mind. These products have been created by the famous dermatologist, Dr. Rekha Sheth, and her team, and are some of the rare few Indian skincare products that contain the skin-friendly vitamins and acids in substantial quantities. After reading and re-reading about all the products, I finally purchased the Dr. Sheth’s Basic Brightening Extra Gentle Daily Peel, a one of a kind product as far as Indian skincare brands are concerned, and I am so happy with my choice!

This product is an exfoliating and brightening chemical peel which is quite mild and is excellent for those who are trying out a peel for the first time. It contains powerful exfoliating agents such as glycolic acid and lactic acid but still manages to remain mild and soothing, thanks to the calendula extracts and hydrating wheat sugars that it contains. On top of it all, it also contains pomegranate extracts which impart brightening properties to the peel.
The formula is in the form of a white lotion with a herbal scent that sinks into the skin very easily and causes a slight tingling sensation upon application. Bear in mind that since it is an exfoliating peel, you must perform a patch test on your elbow before applying it to your face and the brand recommends to use this peel twice a week for three weeks, thrice a week for two weeks and daily after that so that your skin gets time to get used to the ingredients. Also, chemical peels can leave your skin more photo-sensitive than usual, so you MUST apply a sunscreen even if you are not planning to step out of the house, once you incorporate this product in your skincare routine.

I have been using this product for about a month now and am currently using it every other day as a part of my PM skincare routine. On the days that I use this product, I use a gentle face wash and replace my Vitamin C Toner from Tvakh with a mild rose water based toner. Post cleansing and toning, I apply one pump of the product to my face and neck, avoiding my under eye area and any active acne or cuts. Over the past one month, I have noticed that my blemishes have softened in appearance and my skin looks much brighter and youthful than usual.
Of course, it is a combined effect of all the products that I have been using but I am certain that this peel has made a lot of difference to my skin because my dead skin has been peeling off faster and my old acne scars have lightened ever since I began using this product. The first time I used the peel, it broke me out slightly, but this could have been a co-incidental hormonal breakout that appeared at the same time because upon further usage I did not suffer from any more breakouts. The peel does tingle on application and might sting those with sensitive skin but should suit those with normal to oily skin really well.

Overall, this was a great way for me to include chemical exfoliation in my skincare which I had previously been afraid of, because it is much milder than other alternatives from international brands. It can also be used as a spot treatment/mask for 5 minutes, to unclog the pores and brighten the skin. Check out my Instagram post below for before and after pictures of my skin after using the peel as a mask!
This product is priced at INR 850 for a 50ml apothecary style travel-friendly bottle which has an extremely handy pump as well. This is extremely affordable compared to purchasing international products with similar ingredients which will set you back by INR 1500-2500 due to their hefty price, shipping charges, and duties.
However, I do wish that the brand works on reducing their shipping charges because I had to pay INR 200 for shipping (Update: They have now reduced the shipping price). Other than this, I do not have anything negative to say about the product or the brand and I am super pumped to try out some of their other products, including their Basic Brightening Vitamin Glotion, Daily Sunscreen, and Daily Cleanser, and am desperately hoping that they bring out some eye creams soon. Will keep you posted once I get my hands on these!
yes its always a bit fear of using a peel by oneself. but reading this post about this product & your experience make it believe to try .
Do try it. It is very gentle for a peel 🙂
Using a peel on my own sounds a bit risky but now that I am reading about it everywhere I do feel like trying it. This looks like a good product to start with 🙂
Even I was scared of peels but trust me, this one is very gentle for a peel 🙂
I was actually planning to buy ordinary’s aha bha peel but this seem to be bettr than dat..
That one is more intense, this one is gentler
Ya..ill get this one, aftr once
Consultating them..
Do I have to leave this over night? As generally peels r washed off within minutes ??
This can be left overnight because the concentration of aha is lower. You can also use it as a wash-off mask if you want.
Which peel would you recommend Dr sheth’s gentle peel or the body shop peels?
Hi Veena, I haven’t used the body shop peels so can’t comment on those.
