I was a little hesitant before starting to write this post because how much can one really write about a makeup remover? However, I do tend to read the reviews before I purchase a new makeup remover, therefore I thought that I must share my opinion of the Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover with all my readers. This makeup remover claims to be super gentle on the skin and promises to not leave any oily residue. After using it for several months, here are my thoughts on whether or not the product lives up to what it promises.
I am intrigued at how this is a bi-phase makeup remover yet does not contain any oil. The brand claims that the formula is completely oil-free and therefore perfect for oily skinned people. The packaging also states that the product removes waterproof eye makeup without any tugging or stinging and contains aloe and cucumber extracts to soothe the skin. Since it is a bi-phase product, you need to shake it well before each use, to allow the ingredients to mix together.
Starting off with the positives of this product, it does remove waterproof mascara pretty easily and does not leave an oily film on the skin. However, you can still feel that there is a film of some substance on your face and personally, I am never comfortable with using such products without washing my face afterwards. Regarding the stinging of the eyes, it doesn’t sting them but it does cause an uncomfortable sensation if some of the product enters the eyes. Nothing can beat pure coconut oil at removing waterproof mascara gently and effectively, but this makeup remover also gets the job done.
My biggest complaint, however, is not with the product itself but with the packaging. I am not sure if they have upgraded the packaging in the past few months but the one I purchased some time ago has a screw on lid with a wide bottle opening, as shown in the picture below. Because of the lack of a smaller hole, I always end up applying too much product on the cotton pad, which leads to a lot of wastage. Perhaps I would prefer this product a lot more if it came in a better packaging.
The Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover is available in India at a price of INR 399 for a 162 ml bottle. I would say that the price is fair considering the amount of product you get. If you prefer using bi-phase makeup removers and want something that is not too oily then you can give this product a shot. To be honest, I will not be purchasing it again simply because I prefer cleansing oils for waterproof makeup, followed by a good face wash. One suggestion to those who buy this product is to definitely cleanse the face after using it. Trust me, no matter what the brand claims, the residue left behind by makeup removers always clogs the pores!

Great review! I definitely agree that you should wash your face after using this as it feels like it leaves an oily residue (at least for me)! It does a good job getting my eye makeup off but I think I still prefer a makeup wipe, or at least I like to go in with one after using this around my eyes. xoxo
Even I like the precision that a makeup wipe provides, and there are so many nourishing ones in the market these days that are better than the makeup wipes we used to get a few years ago.
Definitely! They have really stepped their game up when it comes to makeup wipes.
Loved your honest review. But I certainly want to give it a try or any other one that is especially for removing eye make up. I try to remove maybelline sensational waterproof with coconut water but honestly it doesn’t work 😐 😐
Otherwise I love using coconut oil for removing my makeup
You can give this a try, it is not bad, just not for me. With coconut oil, try to place a cotton pad soaked in the oil on the eyes for at least a few minutes and then wipe off, it might work better 🙂
I think I will search more for a perfect eye makeup remover 😀
This was the first makeup remover I ever used, then I used the Target brand of it for a while. I liked it a lot til I started using YesTo face wipes to take my makeup off AND clean my face. Now I used micellar water and I love it- I agree that it’s way better to have something that does both removing of makeup and cleansing of the skin. I like products that have multiple uses cause it’s efficient and I’m lazy (: great review!
You anf I have similar choices then 🙂
I’m a big fan of this! <3

I’ve been using this Neutrogena eye makeup remover for YEARS now. Although I’ve tried other brands, I keep going back to this one. I have yet to find an eye makeup remover that works as well as this one. x

Good that it works so well for you!
Completely agree with your views on this. Though I don’t have much issue with the make up removing abilities of this, the residue it leaves behind has been a big con for me. So never repurchased.
Glad you agree!
Detailed and informative review. I think I would stick to coconut oil for makeup removal. ☺☺ Your review helped a lot.

Thanks for the helpful review! <3
I use micellar water followed by cleansing oils to remove my makeup, but I always wash my face afterwards to avoid breakouts.
That is a great regimen 🙂
